It is possibly the biggest accolade of all when your fellow professionals recognize your contribution to the game. And what a contribution Vilame ‘Bill’ Mata has had made in Edinburgh colours this Guinness PRO14 campaign.


His ball carrying, offloading, line breaking presence on the field has resulted in numerous man of the match awards.  Topping off the season, the Fijian Sevens star with the duly rewarded the Players Player of the Year Award at the annual awards ceremony in the Guinness Storehouse.



An award voted for by the players of the GuinnessPRO14 and featuring some stiff competition from the likes of the equally as devastating in attach Johnny McNicholl of Scarlets and Monty Ioane of Benetton Rugby


Always playing with a smile on his face and ever gracious in both glory and defeat the Edinburgh fanbase and beyond will be delighted to hear of his contract extension to at least 2021. What can the big man achieve next season? Anything is possible
