A Disciplinary Committee will meet in Dublin (Ireland) on Wednesday, January 30 to consider the red-card decision against Justin Basson (No 19) of the Toyota Cheetahs which occurred against Zebre Rugby Club on Saturday, January 26, 2019.
The incident occurred in the 72nd minute of the Guinness PRO14 Round 14 fixture at Toyota Stadium, Bloemfontein where referee Ben Whitehouse deemed the player to have committed an act of foul play against an opponent (No 14 Paula Balekana).
The referee showed the player a red card under Law 9.20 – Dangerous play in a ruck or maul.
a) A player must not charge into a ruck or maul. Charging includes any contact made without binding onto another player in the ruck or maul.
b) A player must not make contact with an opponent above the line of the shoulders.
The player will face a Disciplinary Panel via video conference, the panel will comprise of David Martin (Chair), Jennifer Donovan and David Hurley (all Ireland).
