In the eyes of many Guinness PRO14 fans it is long overdue, but on Wednesday we learned that Scarlets flanker James Davies is in line to earn his first international cap.

The 27-year-old has been instrumental in the Welsh region’s successes for a number of years, chief among them last season’s Guinness PRO14 title, and will now look to translate his form to the international stage.

Davies has been named at openside for Wales’ Six Nations clash with Italy on Sunday, playing alongside Justin Tipuric and Toby Faletau in the back-row, and here we take a look at how social media reacted.

The Welsh Rugby Union is clearly excited about the debut for one of the game’s most colourful characters.

Whilst Scarlets are also pleased to see another of their players represent the national side.

Former Fiji sevens coach Ben Ryan knows all about Davies’ talents in that format of the game.
