Monty Ioane produced one of best performances in a Benetton jersey to help the Italians despatch defending champions Scarlets in Round 14.

The wing took little over 25 minutes to cross the whitewash three times as Benetton equalled their best-ever run in the Guinness PRO14 of four straight triumphs.

The 23-year-old hoovered up his first try of the afternoon as he pounced on Marty Banks’ cross-field kick after Johnny McNicholl had failed to collect.

His score 13 minutes later was practically identical to his first as Banks found the dangerous winger in plenty of space with another well-place kick, allowing Ioane to throw himself over the try-line to make it 10-0 at the interval.

And the hat-trick was complete with 50 minutes on the clock thanks to a superb finish in the corner, completing Luca Morisi’s fine break to help Benetton to their first victory over Scarlets since May 2013.

Ioane was virtually unstoppable against the Welsh region, beating seven defenders and making three clean breaks during his all-action 80 minutes.

The winger also made an impressive 116 metres, only Ulster’s Robert Lyttle (120) made more metres in the entire Guinness PRO14 in Round 14.
