The Scarlets returned to Guinness PRO14 action last week needing a boost and yet again it was their very own rocket man who provided it.

Last year’s title-winners suffered two narrow defeats in Champions Cup competition in October and came into Round Seven of the Guinness PRO14 looking for a bonus-point win to send them top of Conference B.

In the way stood a Welsh derby and an improving Cardiff Blues side, who, after being down 15 points at half-time led a second-half fightback with tries from Willis Halaholo and Lloyd Williams.

But in Steff Evans Scarlets have one of the finest wingers in the game and just after the hour mark he decided to intervene in a nervy arm-wrestle of a game.

Fast hands in the Scarlets’ backline released Evans down the left and his perfectly-weighted chip through allowed his namesake Jonathan to touch down for a crucial score.

And then ten minutes later the winger was on the scoresheet himself, as he so often is, picking the perfect line between defenders and jinking his way over to take the game away from their regional rivals.

The Llanelli side went on to win the match 30-17 with the bonus-point win opening up a three-point lead over Leinster in Conference B, with Evans once again the key man.
