Parks To The Fore As Ulster Fail Again

jmcconnell 4 Nov 2004

Parks collected 24 points – including two tries as the home side bounced back from the early sin binning of Jon Petrie to take the win that moves them above Ulster in the table.

David Humphreys had opened the scoring with a penalty after Petrie had been given his 10 minutes – but it was a short-lived lead for the visitors. Canadian Prop Kevin Tkachuk was able to power over from close range and although Parks conversion extended the lead Ulster were back in the game within seconds when Tyrone Howe was able to get their first try – with Humphreys adding the extras.

As they have done throughout the season Glasgow defended magnificently as Ulster looked to extend their lead but with first Simon Best and then Matt McCullough sin binned the Irish side lost the momentum with Glasgow able to stretch their defence as Graeme Morrison collected the second try – with Parks again on the mark.

Early in the second period Parks further increased the lead with a huge penalty – and then collected his first try as he left David Humphreys for dead. He converted his own try and although a Humphreys penalty gave the Irish hope they were never able to get back into the contest with Parks collecting his second try before Humphreys goaled a final penalty for the forlorn Ulstermen.

Parks who was awarded the man of the match award was delighted with the victory. "We’ve been looking forward to a performance tonight to prove to ourselves and our supporters that we are a good side," he said. "It’s always nice to score tries especially when we win the game."
