Parks Kicks Glasgow Rugby To Inter-City Success

jmcconnell 4 Nov 2004

Despite scoring the only try of the game the capital side were unable to shake off a resolute home defence with Glasgow Rugby crucially keeping a clean sheet when reduced to 13 men in the first half.

Dan Parks was the eventual hero kicking a late penalty to secure the win – despite Edinburgh spending much of the game in Glasgow territory.

Parks had opened the scoring with the first of his three penalties in the opening minutes and they held that lead even when Donny Macfadyen and Andrew Kelly were both yellow carded. Not only did the defence hold but just before the break Parks increased the score with his second kick, but soon after the break Chris Paterson replied with his first kick of the night.

Parks quickly restored the six point lead with a well taken drop goal but the Glasgow Rugby defence finally gave way when the visiting pack rumbled forward and replacement David Callam was on hand to barge over with Paterson’s conversion allowing the visitors to take the lead for the first time.

Paterson then missed the chance to take his team 4 points ahead with a 42 metre kick. However Parks was able to respond with his fourth kick and with Paterson missing a further easier penalty late on Glasgow Rugby were sure of the points.
