The title-chasing Dragons ensured an unbeaten Celtic League record at home with an eight-try romp as a lacklustre Borders side went through the motions for 80
minutes. The visitors scored a second-half try through backrower Kelly Brown, but Tony Gilbert’s men were a distant second on the night.
The match ended as a contest when fullback Sione Tuipulotu scored in the corner in the last minute of the first half to take the score to 19-3.
The first 40 minutes were one-way traffic as Dragons skipper and new chief executive Andy Marinos ignored certain three-pointers to run everything.
Scrum-half Gareth Baber and lock Peter Sidoli scored tries and Percy Montgomery added two conversions, with The Borders replying with a solitary Gareth Morton
Fly-half Craig Warlow secured The Dragons’ bonus point in the 44th minute after some Montgomery magic, and with the game in the bag, Dragons coach Mike Ruddock cleared his bench.
Three of his replacements scored tries, with winger Ben Breeze, lock Luke Charteris and backrower Rhys Oakley dotting down. Winger Hal Luscombe bagged his side’s eighth try and Springbok star Montgomery slotted seven conversion
attempts to twist the knife.
