Dragons too good for Warriors

jmcconnell 24 Apr 2006

Two first half tries from skipper Jason Forster laid the foundation for a crucial triumph for the Dragons over Glaagow Warriors at Rodney Parade.

The victory ended a run of three successive defeats in the competition for the hosts and at the same time extended the Warriors’ miserable run to five defeats in a row.

The home side dominated the game in the opening period in terms of possession and territory although there was a quarter of an hour on the clock before they got some reward with a penalty from Craig Warlow.

His opposite number Dan Parks levelled the scores a few minutes later Warlow kicked a second penalty before converting the first of Forster’s two tries to put his side in control.

Forster, who is the highest try scorer in the history of the Celtic League, then added his second before another penalty from Parks kept his side in touch.

The Warriors’s Dan Turner was sent to the bin just past the half hour mark and things got worse before the break when Adam Black notched the Dragons’ third try.

Glasgow looked determined to make a game of it after the break but were left to rue some key errors in threatening positions.

Parks scored a and converted a try but Nathan Brew cancelled out that effort soon after with a notable try.

Then it was the Dragons’ turn to survive a spell with 14-men with Ceri Sweeney the player sent to the bin, an advantage the Warriors capitaised on with a try from Colin Shaw.

However that was to be the last score of the game as the Dragons closed out the win.
