Howley backs Amos and Morgan to drive Dragons’ standards

Wales head coach Rob Howley has backed young Welsh talents Hallam Amos and Tyler Morgan to be a major influence in developing the standards at Newport Gwent Dragons.

Amos has ten caps for his country while Morgan has just three but both are expected to be in the reckoning for the Wales squad for the upcoming Autumn Internationals.

With Wales coach Warren Gatland once again on Lions duty, Howley will be in charge for all four of Wales’ internationals this November against Australia, Argentina, Japan and South Africa.

And he’s been keeping a close eye on the young pair who both came through the Dragons’ academy and have developed into key players for the Welsh region.

Amos was selected as captain when they played in Treviso last week, a game they lost 27-11.

The Dragons have recorded just a single victory in the Guinness PRO12 so far this year but Howley hopes the two backs will blaze a trail into the national team that future generations can follow.

“They take enormous pride in playing for their region. I know that Hallam and Tyler have exchanged their view with us how much they enjoy playing for the Dragons,” Howley said.

“It’s important how they drive each other and drive the team.

“Hallam was captain in Treviso, that’s brilliant and I am sure that learning experience will bring him on as a player and develop him.

“If he was at the Ospreys he might not have the opportunity to captain at such a young age.

“From Hallam and Tyler’s perspective, it’s about them driving the standards at the region and, from what I am led to believe, both of them are enjoying their rugby at this moment.

“The driver for Hallam and Tyler is to be the best that they can be in the games that they play. To make sure that they take their opportunities.”

Prior to Wales duty though, Amos, Morgan and their Dragon’s team mates face Glasgow Warriors who haven’t been beaten by the Welsh region since a 24-23 defeat at Rodney Parade in February 2014.
