Sherry pleased with Munster resilience

Munster hooker Mike Sherry believes his side’s resilience was key to their hard-fought victory over provincial rivals Connacht in the RaboDirect PRO12 on Saturday.

Sherry and co arrived in Galway on the back of a disappointing Heineken Cup defeat to Saracens and aware that Connacht have been in formidable form at the Sportsground, claiming the scalps of Ulster, Harlequins, Leinster and Biarritz in 2012 and staying unbeaten against Irish opposition until Saturday.

But Ian Keatley was in fine form with the boot, taking his chances when they came to notch three penalties and convert his side’s penalty try while Dan Parks kicked all of Connacht’s points but also missed when it really mattered.

And man-of-the-match Sherry was delighted with the defensive effort shown by Munster in the 16-12 win.

He said: “Conditions were tough and they were always going to be tough, it was very wet which meant that there was a lot of slipping so if you take those circumstances into account, it’s great to get the win.

“We always knew that at some stage they would have a purple patch but I think that we defended really well and that’s what earned us the win.

“At the other end we got our points when it mattered and then we defended that lead really well.”
