Kalman targeting January return for Glasgow

Glasgow prop Ed Kalman insists he will be back in RaboDirect Pro12 action by January after revealing the torture of watching the highs and lows of their season from the sidelines.

The 29-year-old had minor back surgery in the summer but for the past few weeks has been upping his workload in the gym in preparation for a return in the new year.

Scotland international Kalman has watched on with a mixture of delight and envy as the Warriors embarked on their best ever RaboDirect PRO12 winning run of six games earlier this season.

But he also admits their last two fixtures in the league, losses to Leinster and Munster, have made him doubly determined to come back and make a difference.

“It has been frustrating to sit on the sidelines while the boys have gone about compiling a new record of wins in the PRO12,” he told the Glasgow Evening Times.

“But maybe even more so when you are helpless to make a difference when things don't go so well as was the case at Munster at the weekend.

“But the main thing for me is that I am absolutely on target for a mid-January return and the key at this stage is not to over-do anything.

“Things are progressing well and I have been doing weights and general fitness stuff with running for a couple of weeks now. But you can't rush back injuries and the care I have had has been fantastic.

“The boys are hurting and there is a real determination, in front of our fans, to get the win we need. A response is required and I am sure we will provide one.”
