Birthday boy Matt Scott breaks away to score the first try of the night which helped end Munster's 14-game unbeaten run

Edinburgh centre Matt Scott admits he’s glad to be back in familiar surroundings ahead of Scotland’s vital Test clash against South Africa on Saturday.

The 22-year-old is used to taking to University of Edinburgh gym with his RaboDirect PRO12 teammates but has been limbering up there ahead of the Spingboks clash with his international colleagues.

Scott started the 55-22 defeat to World Cup winners New Zealand on Sunday and, with ranking points available ahead of the next showpiece in 2015, he’s doubly determined to put that result right.

“We’ve got pressure on us to get ranking points to put us in the top eight for the World Cup seedings at the end of the year so we need to beat South Africa and we need to beat Tonga the following week,” said Scott.

“We’re really looking for a win and the build on that performance against New Zealand.

“It’s a bit odd coming to this gym with the Scotland team rather than with my mates, it’s a really great facility.

“It’s definitely the best gym in Edinburgh, especially for weightlifting and cardio, it’s perfect for what we need and it’s good to get away from Murrayfield and get some different surroundings.”
