Cardiff director of rugby Phil Davies was forced to answer questions on the future of Jamie Roberts after he helped the Blues defeat Treviso and claim their third RaboDirect PRO12 win this season.

The 25-year-old centre suffered a cruciate ligament injury in March and made his first appearance since in the Blues’ 16-5 defeat of Newport Gwent Dragons last weekend, that from the bench.

Roberts went on to start against Treviso and touched down in the first half as the Blues recorded a 34-18 win over the Italian outfit – Dan Fish, Campese Ma’afu and Jason Tovey all also crossing.

Fly-half Rhys Patchell converted all four scores as well as kicking two penalties for a personal haul of 14 points while Robert Barbieri grabbed a double for Treviso.

However Roberts’ start was the talking point as was his future after he admitted he doesn’t know where he is going to be when his contract runs out at the Blues at the end of the season.

But Blues director of rugby Davies knows exactly where he wants Roberts to be, he said: “It’s important we keep all our best players and Jamie’s no different.

“He’s doing well for us at the moment. I’ve been in this game for a long time and we’ve got some great players here.

“We want to keep all of them obviously and hopefully Jamie will be no different in wanting to stay.”
