Evans: more to come from Dragons backs

Full-back Dan Evans revealed he is relishing the opportunity to start week in, week out at Newport Gwent Dragons as he prepares for the RaboDirect PRO12 derby against Cardiff Blues.

Evans will start in his third straight game on Saturday having only started six games for the Scarlets last season.

The consistency of selection alongside wingers Tom Prydie and Will Harries has brought its rewards with a convincing 37-6 defeat of Zebra in round one while 25 points were scored at the RDS last week in their defeat to European champions Leinster.

And 23-year-old Evans, who has won two caps for his country, believes the Dragons back three can continue to improve, particularly with the backing of a vocal Rodney Parade.

“It’s the whole back line that has stayed the same, not just the back three,” Evans said.

“We have been able to get used to each other’s play and that has been especially useful for me and Tom as new boys.

“It can take time but we have made a good start and have gelled pretty well but I think there is even more to come from us as a set of backs.

“The crowd like to give a lot of verbals. They are very supportive of the Dragons and that will be fantastic now that I am a Dragon.

“I’ve been there when the high balls are going up and you are getting all the abuse, hopefully that could play a part on Saturday!

“But we know that it’s down to us as players to put in a performance that encourages the support.

“It's all about attack and taking our chances. We have done that quite well.”
