Wins the only motivation for star turn Williams

Liam Williams has been the undisputed star of the show as the Scarlets have enjoyed a vintage start to their RaboDirect PRO12 season.

But the Scarlets full-back was quick to insist it is the team’s victories and not his personal gongs that left him purring with delight at Scotstoun on Friday night.

Williams and co. were the party poopers in Glasgow as the Warriors’ search for a winning start at their new home ended in disappointment, losing 18-13.

The 21-year-old made his Test debut and his only international appearance to date against the Barbarians at the Millenium Stadium in June.

And if his early-season displays are anything to go by he’s itching to add to that tally in the autumn Tests – his performance against Glasgow saw him win his second RaboDirect PRO12 man-of-the-match gong in as many games.

Despite failing to add to his try-scoring tally in the win over the Warriors having crossed in the 45-20 thrashing of Leinster last week Williams said: “It was a great start for the team last week to get that win against Leinster.

“We knew it was going to be a hard game against the Warriors and we are just happy with the win.

“Last week was a really good performance for us and we just hoped to step it up again and we did that which is really good.

“We will look forward to the game next week now.”
