Edinburgh's Lee Jones scores his side's sixth try

Edinburgh winger Lee Jones admits he can’t remember too much from his first encounter with Andrew Trimble but is determined his second on-pitch meeting with the Ulsterman, in a Heineken Cup semi-final, will leave him with happier memories.

Jones has never come across Trimble, nor any Ulster player, in the RaboDirect PRO12 but in this year’s Six Nations clash with Ireland Trimble accidentally knocked out Jones and the 23-year-old had to be stretched off.

Ireland won the match 32-14 but Trimble didn’t forget about Jones, who has made 12 appearances in the RaboDirect PRO12 this season, and came to check up on his opposite man, leaving Jones highly impressed with his adversary’s manners.

“He (Trimble) texted me when I was in the hospital after the game and then came to see me just as I was getting back to the team hotel the next day,” Jones told the Scotsman.

“He just came to see that I was alright and we had a good chat. Not many guys would have done that so it left a nice impression. He’s a good guy and it was just one of those things in rugby.

“There’s not a great deal I can remember to be honest, and that’s maybe a good thing now we’re going back there (the Aviva Stadium)!

“It’s not something that worries me at all; it’s part of rugby and thankfully I recovered quickly.

“I’m really looking forward to going back to such a great stadium again, and hopefully I’ll stay on the pitch and be able to remember the experience a bit more this time.”
