Ferris: Ulster now an European force

Ulster flanker Stephen Ferris believes his side have announced themselves as a European force to be reckoned with after booking their place in Heineken Cup semi-final with victory over RaboDirect PRO12 rivals Munster on Sunday.

Ferris was named man of the match in Ulster’s 22-16 win over the RaboDirect PRO12 champions as Ruan Pienaar kicked ten points, Craig Gilroy scored a scintillating try and Ian Humphreys dropped a goal.

Now Ulster face another RaboDirect PRO12 side Edinburgh in the semi-final in Dublin – and Ferris believes a place in the final at Twickenham is there for the taking.

"Our defence won it – I don't think they had a line break in the whole game and as a team we were outstanding in that area," said Ferris.

"It was a great team effort and we've put out a statement to European rugby."

"The Munster boys came out at us and with the crowd behind them we knew it was going to be a long afternoon.

"But we made a terrific start with Ruan (Pienaar) kicking the penalties over.

"Edinburgh have showed they are a good side and it's going to be tough, but we're looking forward to it."
