Aviva Stadium still confident of holding all-Ireland final

Aviva Stadium officials have brushed off concerns that an all-Ireland RaboDirect PRO12 final may have to be staged elsewhere, after the announcement of a Republic of Ireland football friendly against Bosnia & Herzegovina on May 26.

The Grand Final – contested between Leinster and Munster last season – is due to be held on the weekend of May 26/27 and with both of last year’s finalists, as well as Ulster, chasing a play-off spot, an all-Ireland final is a genuine possibility.

But stadium manager Martin Murphy has poured cold water on suggestions that the 51,000-capacity arena couldn’t cope with back-to-back high-profile matches.

"We have successfully held sporting fixtures on successive days on three separate occasions in the recent past, so it wouldn't be a problem for us," said Murphy.

"In fact, it's probably easier to switch from soccer to rugby if required. We've factored such a contingency in our plans. It could happen."
