Best: Result came first in Connacht win

Man-of-the-match Rory Best admitted the performance had had to come second to the result as Ulster stopped their RaboDirect PRO12 rot with a 22-3 win over Connacht.

12 points – including an icing-on-the-cake try late on – from fly-half Ian Humphreys did the damage for the home side, who also notched scores through Tom Court and Craig Gilroy.

After a run of four straight league defeats the win was a welcome one for Best and co. as they look to kick start their stuttering season.

And with that in mind Best admitted Ulster were just happy to get the job done.

“It was a scrappy enough game but I think for us it was about getting a win,” said Best.

“A lot of aspects of our game we won’t be happy with but we’ve stopped that losing run and got a win and it is onwards and upwards now.

“You can’t underestimate how tough it was to breach them, but we created ample opportunities and we have to take a long hard look at our individual errors.

“We had chances to put them away but silly knock-ons cost us and once we keep stepping it up a level every week, we have to be putting away those chances.”
