Edinburgh hooker Ross Ford admits he’s licking his lips at the chance to throw himself back into domestic action after a lengthy absence in this weekend’s RaboDirect PRO12 clash with Leinster.

Ford is among five returning World Cup players who will start for the Gunners against Leinster on Friday night with the Scots looking to repeat their heroics of last year, when they comprehensively defeated the European champions.

Ford has not featured for Edinburgh since January after an extended rest period following the Six Nations before gearing up for Scotland’s World Cup campaign, where they were edged out by England and as a result failed to advance to the knock-out stages for the first time in the competition’s history.

“Coming in, I’m just adding a bit more experience and trying to help out where I can,” said Ford.

“It’s just wee things, just trying to up the standards if that’s needed in any area.

“There are a few new faces here now, but I’ve seen some videos of the boys playing and I think they’ve done well. Things have looked good in training as well, so hopefully we can take that onto the pitch.”
