Ospreys' Barry Davies dives over to score his side's first try of the evening...

Ospreys full-back Barry Davies believes the real litmus test for his side’s stunning start to the RaboDirect PRO12 season will come when they travel to Thomond Park to take on champions Munster.

Davies bagged his first try of the season five minutes into the 26-21 win against Connacht that extended their winning start to the season to five matches.

With Edinburgh’s shock 29-14 defeat of Munster bringing the league’s only other 100per cent record to an end, Ospreys now lead Saturday’s opponents by three points at the top of the RaboDirect PRO12.

And Davies is adamant they will have to deliver a far better performance than the one that saw them squeeze past Connacht at the Liberty Stadium.

He said: “We are happy with the win obviously but disappointed with the performance. We know that we had a short turnaround but we got the two wins we wanted.

“It’s a tough ask now going out to Munster but we’ve got a bit of time to work hard and try to improve our performance in all areas of the game.

“It was nice to go over, to score the try. I don't think I've scored a try in the league since 2009 maybe, so it's pleasing to score but I'm disappointed with the performance.

“After the early score were hoping that we'd consolidate, play a bit of territory, but I've played against Connacht for the last ten years and they're a gritty outfit who always make games difficult.

“We've got lots of things to work on, individually and collectively as a team. Different teams offer you different challenges and Connacht caused a lot of problems.

“The performance wasn't great but we're a close-knit team. We've really bonded over these five games we've won, but the season's so long that you can't read too much into early results really.”
