Davies demands improvement ahead of Treviso clash

Scarlets boss Nigel Davies has called on his troops to buck their ideas up in a hurry in time for Saturday’s clash with Treviso.

A 15-10 defeat against Leinster condemned the Welsh side to their third successive RaboDirect PRO12 reverse on the bounce.

As a result rather than eyeing the top echelons of the table, Davies’ side are sitting depressingly close to the basement, with bottom club Aironi trailing them by a single point.

And while the Scarlets boss is well aware of the potential banana skin the trip to Italy holds he insists he’s only got eyes for victory this weekend.

“It is going to be another battle and another game where there is only going to be a couple of points in it,” added Davies.

“I am sure the wins are going to come, but they need to come sooner rather than later if we are to stay in touch with the leaders.

“We have to regather this week and focus on Treviso.”

But while the statistics – one win from four games – make for depressing reading on paper, Davies believes it doesn’t tell the full story of their early-season form.

“We are lacking a bit of confidence at the moment, but it is important that we keep our heads up and keep ploughing on,” he added.

“I don't think we were a million miles away against Leinster, it is just we weren't clinical enough.

“There were also times when I thought we had Leinster on the ropes, but weren't accurate enough to make it count.

“When we are in arm wrestles we have got to be more clinical when the chances come.”
