Benetton Treviso scrum-half Fabio Semenzato has received rave reviews for his man-of-the-match performance for Italy against Wales in the RBS 6 Nations clash on Saturday.

The 24-year-old who has only played eight Magners League appearances made his International debut a fortnight ago against England after Pablo Canavosio and Edoardo Gori were both ruled out through injury.

On Saturday he was at the forefront of the Italian attack, controlling the back-line that pushed Wales all the way in Rome.

His performance was rewarded with the man-of-the-match award, voted by the media and his own coach Nick Mallett, as well as the visitors attack coach Rob Howley were full of praise for Semenzato after the game.

“I thought we was fantastic,” said Mallet.

“He controlled the game well, got stuck in and was everywhere, for a young guy in just his second game at this level he really stepped up to the plate.”

Howley, a former British and Irish Lions number nine echoed Mallet’s comments.

“He had a really good game and was at the heart of the Italy attack as they threw everything at us, he’s got a good future ahead of him.”
