Ben Blair reckons he is finally on the road to recovery.

The Cardiff Blues leading points scorer has only made three Magners League appearances this season and has not played since facing Castres in Europe back in October.

But after almost five frustrating months on the sidelines struggling with a knee injury, Blair believes the problem is beginning to heal.

“It’s been really frustrating but it’s just coming along now,” said Blair. “I have another scan this week and then I will up the rehab.

“Up until now I’ve pretty much been totally resting it. Hopefully in the next few weeks I can get moving, but it’s been very slow going.

“I’m just looking forward to running again, I haven’t been able to do anything really.

“I started doing some upper body weights and some boxing initially but as it wasn’t getting any better I had to totally rest it.

“It’s been frustrating, not just missing the rugby but the training and even just kicking the ball around with my kids.

“There’s only so much you can do in the gym when you’ve only got your upper body to work on.”

The injury had raised question marks over the former All Blacks career, but Blair is adamant he will be back next season.

He is aiming to return to training in the coming months and has a slim chance of returning to action before the season.

“It will be nice to be up and running before the season finishes,” added Blair.

“I wouldn’t say I’m totally confident of playing but there is a chance of coming back right towards the end of the season.

“I’m not worrying about my career, it’s just a case of seeing how it progresses over the next months.”
