Halfpenny worry for Wales

Cardiff Blues wing Leigh Halfpenny handed Wales a major injury worry last night after being stretchered from the training field with their opening RBS 6 Nations clash against England just four days away.

The 22-year-old missed the autumn international series with an ankle injury, but his return to fitness and try-scoring form in recent weeks had been a major boost to Warren Gatland but now the squad must await the results of scans on the injury.

After impressive performances in the Magners League and European Cup in January, British and Irish Lion Halfpenny looked to have returned to the top of his game but this latest injury could be a huge blow to player and country.

Wales are already without Scarlets wing George North who starred on the International stage in November but do have the services of Shane Williams who returned to fitness a fortnight ago.

Wales host England in the opening game of this season's championship, kick off is at 7:45pm at the Millennium Stadium.
