Blair the silver lining in defeat

Edinburgh head coach Rob Moffat reckons fly-half David Blair was the major positive in his side’s 21-16 Magners League defeat to the Scarlets.

The Welsh region had never triumphed in Edinburgh but they put their nightmare run to an end with a devastating second-half performance.

But Moffat has praised Blair for his efforts and claimed he was the silver lining in defeat.

"I don't normally single out players but I thought David played really well," said Moffat. "He's been attacking the line well and getting more and more confident at doing that.

"He made two or three cracking breaks – but we just have to react a bit quicker and finish these things off. We have to get on the end of that, support better and quicker."

But Moffat was less than complimentary about his side's forward display and was disappointed with his pack's inconsistent set-piece.

"We can't be as inconsistent in our set piece," added Moffat.

"At the start of the second half they kicked and the ball straight out. We have a scrum then they score from it. That's just ludicrous. We lacked a bit of spark."

Edinburgh will hope to bounce back on February 11 when they resume Magners League action at Rodney Parade against Newport Gwent Dragons.
